The Top 10 Most Popular YouTube Videos of All Time
Tracking YouTube’s all-time most popular videos is like taking snapshots of what people are into at various points in time and taking a temperature reading of our modern culture. And I’ll tell you what: According to this list, we’re running hot — particularly when it comes to streaming. In August 2007, “Evolution of Dance” by Judson Laipply nabbed the top spot with almost 56 million views. In September 2008, Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” music vid was numero uno, with 103 million views. By January 2010, she was unseated by “Charlie bit my finger – again !“, which had 148 million views. While it stayed on the top 10 list, the clip slid down the ranks, and Justin Bieber’s music video “Baby” snagged the #1 spot in January 2011, and it still tops the chart.
Five years ago, nearly 56 million views was enough to land a video at the top of the list. Now, a clip has to exceed at least 765 million just to oust The Bieb. As for what that says about us, we’re apparently a pop music-loving and rambunctious baby-watching audience with a growing online streaming obsession.
The current list of top 10 most popular YouTube videos follows:
1. Justin Bieber – Baby ft. Ludacris (almost 765 million views)
2. Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor ft. Pitbull (575 million+ views)
3. Shakira – Waka Waka(This Time for Africa) (485 million+ views)
